Seeking Host Homes for GLBT Youth
Tues & Thurs, Feb 7 & 9, 6:00-8:00 PM
Midtown YWCA
2121 East Lake Street, Mpls
Interested in sharing your resources and helping sustain your community?
One of the ways that the Twin Cities' community is addressing homelessness experienced by GLBT young people is through the GLBT Host Home Program of Avenues for Homeless Youth, which offers a transformative and community-based approach to providing gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth with safe homes. As volunteers of the program, adults open their homes and their hearts to young people who need and are looking for a healthy and nurturing connection. If you are interested in hearing more about this community building program, please come to an informational meeting to learn about the history of the GLBT Host Home Program and about the application and screening process for potential volunteers. You will also have an opportunity to hear from hosts who shared their homes with youth. Questions? Call Raquel (Rocki) at Avenues for Homeless Youth: 612-522-1690, ext. 110 or email at rocki@avenuesforyouth.org.
The Naked I: Wide Open
Opens Feb 10 at 7:30 PM
Feb 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, & 18
Intermedia Arts, Uptown
2822 Lyndale Ave, Mpls
In February 2009, 20% Theatre Company took the Twin Cities by storm with The Naked I: Monologues From Beyond the Binary by award-winning transgender playwright Tobias K. Davis. Often compared to the Vagina Monologues, The Naked I was made up of monologues and short scenes in which transgender, transsexual, intersex, and many variously gendered people explored their bodies and dissected society's assumptions. Ever since that production, 20% has received numerous requests from local folks who are itching to tell you their stories. Throughout the summer of 2011 20% collected over 100 pages of incredible writing submitted by local transgender and gender non-conforming people and allies, and created The Naked I: Wide Open - a new play full of fresh, sexy, humorous, gut-punching, and unbelievably honest stories.
Be Seen. Be Heard. Seeking Documentary Participants - Intimate Partner Violence
The OutFront Minnesota Anti-Violence Program is seeking LGBT people to participate in a short documentary we're creating about intimate-partner violence (IPV) and LGBT relationships. In the United States there are only a handful of documentaries that address this subject, and only in a limited capacity. We are looking for LGBT survivors over the age of 18 who have experienced intimate partner violence, and who are willing to talk about this on camera. If you are outside of Minnesota, we still welcome your participation, but you must be able to film your story and send it in. (Please postmark any mailings by February 29th). Anyone who wishes to participate in the film and remain anonymous may do so. We recognize that discussing this can be a deeply personal and sometimes painful process. We encourage participants to do so only so far as it is an empowering process. If you would like to get involved in this project or for more information, please contact Philip at philip@outfront.org or 612-822-0127, ext. 7659.

Chrishaun "CeCe" McDonald is a young African American transgender woman charged with "second degree murder" after an incident that began when she was violently attacked because of her gender and race. Trans people of color are targeted by racist and genderist violence everywhere, including the criminal justice system, and we stand in solidarity with the campaign to drop all charges. Free CeCe!
