The Minnesota LGBT Therapists Network, the Queer Student Cultural Center and the GLBTA Programs Office at the University of Minnesota present a regional conference on mental health topics as they relate to LGBTQ communities:
About the Conference
A comprehensive, culturally diverse, and practical one-day conference aimed at informing & engaging mental health providers, health care professionals, educators, and the general public about mental health issues as they relate to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities. This cutting-edge conference will explore changing paradigms in research, clinical practice and our understandings of diverse sexual and gender identities.
This conference is open to all interested people, including those who are allies to LGBTQ communities. This conference will be of particular interest to mental health practitioners, researchers in
health-related fields, professional educators, and undergraduate & graduate students. CEUs will be available: see below for more information.
Thursday Evening Reception
Please join us for a Thursday Evening Opening Reception, sponsored by the LGBT Therapists Network, with remarks by Beth Zemsky, founding member of the Network, and Loretta Worthington, Executive Director of the Rainbow Health Initiative. Entertainment provided by comic Donna DiMenna and musician Chastity Brown.

Continuing Education Units
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available through several licensure boards, including the Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy (LADC, LP, LPCC), the Board of Social Work, and the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy. Certificates of completion will be distributed at the conference closing. Keynote Presentation
Katherine "Kit" Rachlin, Ph.D.
Katherine Rachlin, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and gender specialist in private practice in New York City. In addition to her work as a therapist, she also conducts trainings on transgender issues, provides supervision for psychotherapists, and provides expert testimony for transgender civil rights cases.
Dr. Rachlin's research and papers include: Flexible Use of the Standards of Care; Access to Health Care; Transgender Individuals' Experiences of Psychotherapy; and Factors which influence FTM surgical decisions. She is a past board member of FTM International, was a member of the American Psychological Association Taskforce on Gender Identity, Gender Variance, and Intersex Conditions, and is a current board member of The World Professional Association for Transgender Health. This cutting edge conference will offer over 50 workshops that will explore changing paradigms in research and clinical practice as they relate to our understandings of diverse sexual and gender identities, as well as to issues of race, class, ability and sexual practices.
Clinical Track: Workshops in the Clinical Track will be presentations on emerging trends in mental health as they relate specifically to the LGBTQ communities, and geared towards an audience of mental health practitioners, people with clinical or professional training, and graduate students pursuing clinical training.
Research Track: Workshops in the Research Track will be presentations that highlight current clinical and psychological research that relates directly to the LGBTQ communities. These workshops will explain and explore what we are learning from this research and how it can actually be applied in the mental health fields.
Community Track: Workshops in the Community Track will include presentations on mental health topics as they relate to LGBTQ people and geared towards a general audience, which may include undergraduate and graduate students, laypersons from the larger community, and mental health professionals.

Lodging
A special Beyond the Boxes rate has been established for conference attendees at the Radisson University Hotel-Mpls, across the street from the conference site on the University of Minnesota campus at 615 Washington Avenue SE, Minneapolis.
Conference attendees must make their reservations by February 23 to access the special rate. Contact Reservations at 1-800-395-7046 and ask for the Beyond the Boxes LGTBQ Conference rate.
